Tobias Pils (Linz 1971) works primarily in the media of painting and drawing. The pictures take the viewer into an abstract world of forms and structures that cannot be clearly resolved. They are dreamy works in muted tones, black ink surfaces dominate the composition, and yet every now and then a colored surface flashes out and creates an aesthetic space of experience. Tobias Pils studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and is the recipient of numerous art awards: in 1994 he was awarded the Otto Mauer Prize, in 1999 a recognition of the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis (the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward) and in 2011 the Anton Faistauer Prize for Painting.
