Anton Petz (Graz 1962), who lives in Munich, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1996 he received a recognition award from the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward. In his objects piled up from acrylic paint, Petz sees color as the core of his painting and thematizes it as the material, substance and precondition of his art. Through the thick, massive application of several layers of acrylic, the boundary between painting and object art blurs, the painting conquers the space. Occasionally a portrait or a landscape can be made out, but mostly Petz's object painting slides into the abstract, the color becomes an end in itself.
