The Upper Austrian painter and video artist Thomas Steiner (Wels/AT 1956) studied at the Linz University of Art and then in Maria Lassnig's master class at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. In 1996 he received the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of today's STRABAG Artaward International. Steiner works in parallel in the media of drawing, painting, photography, and film, regularly creating series that cross media. In painting, it is especially the square format that has inspired Steiner for decades. Steiner's series of works are often dedicated to a specific color or visual impression and are strongly characterized by a graphic gesture. Powerfully generated, dynamic lines reflect the spontaneity and intensity of the working process.
