Jósefina Alanko (Juuka/FI 1993) studied at the Kankaanpää Art School in Finland and at the Universidad Europea Madrid UEM. Her working process consists of several phases in which she gradually modifies the material. At the beginning, she works on the raw linen and sews additional fabric elements onto the surface, only then is the canvas stretched and Alanko begins to paint. However, the artist creates the motifs in advance by collecting notes in her sketchbooks, which form the basis for her painting. She draws inspiration from her native North Karelia - a region in Finland that has its own culture, language and traditions and whose people have a particularly strong connection to nature. From her adopted home of Łódź in Poland, on the other hand, she draws inspiration from the textile techniques used there. Alanko works consciously and unconsciously with these influences and repeatedly places nature and femininity at the center of her artistic work. In 2023, Jósefina Alanko received the STRABAG Artaward International.
