Roman Scheidl (Leopoldsdorf/AT 1949) studied graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Maximilian Melcher. The everyday life and the complete works of the painter and draftsman, who is, however, equally passionate about dance, film, literature and philosophy, are characterized by numerous trips abroad and longer stays in his living places Vienna and Zurich, Paris and Tokyo. Roman Scheidl is a passionate painter and draftsman whose work is characterized by a sweeping brushstroke between figuration and abstraction. An idealistic and existentialist worldview provides the pictorial content for Scheidl's work: poetic figurative motifs and magical landscapes. "The older one becomes as a painter, the more clearly it becomes apparent that the paintings lead a life of their own. They progress, they stop, they grow, but with too much control and attention they atrophy. Painting is comparable to "walking" in a fully motorized society. When walking, everything slows down. Thoughts have time to unravel. Vision becomes clear and deep again." Roman Scheidl
