Svenja Deininger (Vienna 1974) studied at the art academies in Münster and Düsseldorf and lives in Vienna. In 2012 she received the STRABAG Artaward International. "Painting after painting: In the works of Svenja Deininger the manifold problems and crises of art in the age of technical images are co-reflected and made productive as a creative impulse. Deininger questions materials, techniques as well as apodictic demands for representationalism and abstraction and extracts aesthetic solutions from these conflict situations. She is not concerned with creating a false artistic harmony, but rather with understanding the dissonances associated with contemporary painting as an integral part of her work. Svenja Deininger often uses different primers that create surface tension in the painting and influence the coloration - a modular approach in which the coloristic is used atmospherically to either create balance or counterbalance."
