Hans Fronius (Sarajevo 1903-1988 Mödling) spent his youth in Graz after the end of World War I, before studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1922. During his studies he went on study trips to Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, France and Italy. Between 1941 and 1945 he had to do military service, after the end of the war he took a job as a high school teacher. It was not until 1961 that Fronius moved with his family to Perchtoldsdorf near Vienna, where he was able to devote himself exclusively to his art from 1964 until his death in 1988. Hans Fronius was awarded the Great Austrian State Prize and the Cross of Honor for Art and Science. Whether with chalk, pencil, brush or wooden stylus, his independent work is characterized above all by its expressiveness. Fronius' themes were portraits, world literature, but also city views, which he realized both painterly and as illustrations. The artist has published numerous books and portfolios, and his works have been shown in more than 230 solo exhibitions in Austria and abroad, including at the Albertina in Vienna and the Austrian Gallery Belvedere.
