Helmut Fian (Feldkirchen/Carinthia 1956) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Wolfgang Hollegha. His work encompasses drawing, painting and sculpture, whereby the focus of his artistic work is repeatedly the confrontation with nature. However, Fian's landscapes are by no means lifelike reproductions of what he has seen, but often arise from the unconscious. Associations with nature are always possible and are fed from the most diverse sources. The artist has put the process of painting into words: "Painting is, when you get into a flow, like a dream, you leave a form of reality. The all around gets a completely different relationship and the painting in and of itself is then the universe. There is nothing else but painting in that moment."
