Numerous stylistic devices and influences find their way into Jakub Hošek's (Prague 1979) works. By painstakingly painting over hand-cut stencils on canvas with acrylic paint, his works acquire a new visual language and tell a complex story in their comic-like style. It is precisely this spirit of post-teen pop that makes Hošek's heavily colored paintings, deliberately naïve through his collage-like comic elements, stylish, cool and technically perfect. The titles and snippets of text in his paintings come mainly from post-punk and punk rock music, which he himself likes to listen to. Jakub Hošek received a recognition award of the STRABAG Artaward International in 2011.
