Sevda Chkoutova (Sofia/BG 1978) is one of the most brilliant contemporary draftswomen in Austria. In 1998 she came to Vienna to study at the Academy of Fine Arts, and in 2006 she received a STRABAG Artaward recognition prize. Her large-scale works are characterized by a virtuoso mastery of the techniques of graphite and charcoal drawing. Finely worked, detailed, small-scale drawings sometimes cover the works on paper as irritating, almost comic-like details. Thematically, the artist deals with her role as a woman and mother in society and her family environment, but also with tabooed sexuality and disturbing dreams and experiences of her own childhood. The artist lives and works in Vienna.
