Markus Proschek (Schwarzach im Pongau 1981) creates paintings that quote works from art history. He locates the spatial backdrop in places that have undergone major historical changes, such as the Haus der Kunst in Munich, which was opened during the National Socialist era and today presents contemporary art. Nudes, torsos, marble sculptures are painted photorealistically by Markus Proschek. Viewers are invited to question aesthetic models and historical contexts. Proschek received recognition from the STRABAG Artaward in 2008. The artist lives and works in Berlin.
