The works of the self-taught artist Karl Anton Fleck (Vienna 1928-1983 Vienna), who to this day occupies an outsider position in the Austrian art scene, build a major drawing focus in the STRABAG Artcollection. With over 100 works, they also represent one of the most comprehensive collections of the exceptional artist. His wild, choppy strokes, which create ruggedly angular outlines, manage to bring out the very own, uninhibited character traits of sitters of the portraits and endow the landscape with almost human features: She seems to live and breathe as if she were a fierce monster. The body, or rather fragments of the body, are the focus of Fleck's drawings, as in the series of nude drawings Fleck made in 1980 and meticulously dated to the day. The women's bodies, drawn with Fleck's typical stroke, assume contorted poses and feature highlights set with wax crayon, which Fleck, a trained photo retoucher, referred to as "lights" and which purposefully draw the eye to reflections and shades of the sitter's skin.
