After graduating from the Technical School for Wood and Stone Sculpture, Peter Sandbichler (Kufstein 1964) studied at the Art Students League New York, at the University of Applied Arts with Wander Bertoni and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Bruno Gironcoli. He then went to Frankfurt for a year to the Institute for New Media at the Städelschule to study with Peter Weibel. Stays in Berlin, Tokyo and New York followed. Today, the foundation of various artistic approaches forms the basis for Sandbichler's consistent artistic œuvre; his works are created at the interface of installation art, object art and media art and are often conceived for public spaces. Sandbichler's expansive design work repeatedly explores the boundaries between architecture, art, intervention, and everyday objects, using materials such as concrete, polyester, metal, and cardboard. In 1995 Peter Sandbichler exhibited at the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
