In 2008, the French-Austrian artist Nieves Salzmann (Les Lilas/FR 1976) received a recognition award from the STRABAG Artaward. Salzmann consistently works on her main theme, the depiction of urban, yet deserted landscapes, which are shown in unusual perspectives and restricted fields of vision. According to Salzmann, "The perspectives, the streets, the traces, the continuous lines that stretch into the distance, which the observer forms even in his or her thoughts, fascinate my imagination. The peculiarity of these urban landscapes, the outskirts, the no man's land appeal to me. So does the pacing and constant movement that one senses in these identity-less spaces. They carry with them a strong story that I try to transfer to canvas, wood and plexiglass."
