Felix Malnig (Nuremberg 1967) studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Maria Lassnig and Christian Ludwig Attersee. The artist works with acrylic and spray paint on canvas and creates urban landscapes that seem deserted and abandoned, places that are undergoing change, decline or transformation. Malnig takes a critical look at social and economic systems and examines information that is transported through architecture. Malnig shows skyscrapers, abandoned border stations, parking garages, parked cars, highway bridges, or (former) representational buildings - places that actually exist and give hints of certain ways of life and ideals. In many cases, the places depicted are settings that Felix Malnig discovered on his numerous trips to the USA and China, and whose impressions he incorporates into his painting. Felix Malnig received a Strabag Artaward recognition award 2008.
