Saša Makarova (Košice/SK 1966) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Study trips and work stays led the artist through large parts of Asia, for example to India, Nepal, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Japan or China. In her densely painted pictures, bursting with expressive color, Makarova helps the portrait of women to a new presence. Her depictions of women are emotional and intense, the protagonists are sometimes melancholy-dreamy, then again sensual-seductive. Lush floral elements complete Makarova's painting and make her an unmistakable, distinctive position in contemporary Austrian painting.
