Wilhelm Drach (Vienna 1952) completed his training at the Höhere Graphische Bundes-Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt and taught there until 2018. He also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In Drach's paintings, painterly surface and graphic trace meet. The artist always works in series - be it landscapes, depictions of women or heads - and formulates in them his personal view of real impressions. The motif of the head has preoccupied Drach since the 1980s, and he is always careful to recognize and sensibly reproduce the essence and character of a figure. Reflection on the content of the picture and the painting process are intrinsic to Drach. Although the impression is given that his works are created spontaneously with quick gestures, the working process takes years. The non finito in Drach's art illustrates the numerous possibilities and the constant development of his work, whereby the challenge for the artist is also to define the right moment in which the work is completed.
