Birgit Pleschberger (Villach 1978) studied art and art education at the University Mozarteum Salzburg with Ruedi Arnold. Her realistically executed drawings are worked with Nero, a greasy graphite pencil that leaves a particularly soft stroke and rich deep black on the paper. Contours are drawn to shape, constrain, and knit shapes, people, and animals into a system of lines and tensions. Countless fine lines come together to form a picture. The artist likes to use multiple sheets of paper that she lays side by side to produce a large work, creating delineations and framing within each work as well. In her horizontal formats, the artist creates the appearance of a pictorial narrative, repeatedly portraying herself, tropical plants, and corvids. Birgit Pleschberger received a recognition award in 2007 as part of the STRABAG Artaward.
