Czech artist Jan Šerých (Prague 1972) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Šerých works predominantly conceptually and installatively; his paintings, objects and video works follow a formally abstract language and take up geometric tendencies from painting as well as patterns and manifestations of typography. Šerých's oeuvre is minimalist in design and reduced to the essential. In extensive serial works, the artist deals with the arrangement of abstract white lines that meander across black canvases and are reminiscent of labyrinths or optical illusions. In the series Index, Šerých devoted himself to a large-scale cataloging of search results on various websites. In 2009, the artist was awarded a recognition prize as part of the STRABAG Artaward International.
