Ernst Schmid (Gmunden 1965) is a passionate collector - in magazines, brochures or even when he is in supermarkets, he looks for all kinds of products, which he then lists in his notes. His interests are varied and so his lists include film titles, names, places and much more. These lists then serve as the basis for his artistic work. On the basis of this fund, he makes sketches which he then transfers to works, be it on paper or canvas. He is very fast in his creative process, sometimes producing up to six works in one day, almost serially. However, the artist attaches great importance not only to the lettering and arrangement, but also to the choice of paint on which the black letters are applied. Schmid's works are reminiscent of brightly original advertising signs, with playfully irregularly painted characters and individual word separations that the artist makes without following grammar rules. The works thus reflect his original and unique visual language, which is subject to his very own order.
