Matt Mullican (Santa Monica/USA 1951), who comes from a family of artists, studied at the California Institute of the Arts. The medially diverse work of the renowned artist is widely discussed internationally. At the end of the 1970s, Mullican was intensively involved with performance and hypnosis, among other things. In the 1980s he developed complex systems of signs with the claim to represent a comprehensive cosmology. Today, his work includes painting, drawing, installations, videos, and sculptures. In addition to his artistic activities, he has held a professorship at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg and has taught as a guest lecturer at universities in New York, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. Matt Mullican's work has been presented in numerous international art institutions, including The Hammer Museum UCLA, The Metropolitan Museum, New York, and Museum Ludwig, Cologne. In addition, Matt Mullican participated at documenta in Kassel three times.
