Andreas Werner (Merseburg an der Saale 1984) studied theater, film and media studies at the University of Vienna, graphic arts and printmaking at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Werner has devoted himself to drawing. With precision, he creates monumental structures with a wide variety of surface structures and textures using graphite and pencil. His large-format works show fictitious architectural structures - conglomerates of the most diverse set pieces. Fragments of buildings and temples, but also of rockets and robots are recognizable and evoke diverse associations. In the fathoming of the strictly geometric forms, science fiction scenarios and architectural constructions of past civilizations seem to overlap. Werner's combinations form an independent drawn universe in search of and questioning utopias and the idea of a promising future. Andreas Werner is the winner of the STRABAG Artaward 2022.
