Nadim Vardag (Regensburg 1980) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Fundamental to his work is the relation between space, object and image. The tensions spanning space, object and image are fundamental to Nadim Vardag’s work. Interventions in space and an exploration of presentation forms determine his oeuvre, whilst adopting installation-oriented approaches. In extraordinarily precise drawings he uses charcoal and pencil on paper to bring out light and dark contrasts with great sensitivity and technical skill: within the perspectival mesh of lines, hatching and tonal gradations in black and white that he weaves, forms such as the cones of light we know from projections take shape. Both the light source and the space nonetheless remain undefined here. These works testify to Vardag’s exploration of the theme of cinema and film. Nadim Vardag received a STRABAG Artaward International recognition award in 2016. The artist lives and works in Vienna.
