Vivian Greven (Bonn 1985) studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and received a STRABAG Artaward International recognition award in 2016. Her painting demands the insistent contemplation of the subject and rewards through the unfolding of an erotic subjectivity intrinsic to the image. "In relentlessly direct eye contact with the self-portrait ego, or even in its absence, in eyeless masks, Greven analyzes the gaze as the antithesis of the body. With the disappearance of the gaze, she thematizes the loss of the countenance, the face as a window to the soul, in favor of the "face," as it is today as a profile photo in the social networks identity-forming and as a "selfie" the pose becomes a constantly narcissistic self-assurance."
