Herwig Zens (Himberg bei Wien 1943-2019 Vienna) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, to which he returned as a professor in 1987. His artistic work - painting, watercolor, drawing and etching, which has a very special place in his oeuvre - revolves in cycles around challenging thematic complexes such as Greek mythology, music, the Dance of Death or Francisco de Goya's late work. Zens' paintings are characterized by a powerful gesture in strong, reduced colors. On his numerous trips all over the world, but especially to Spain and Mount Athos in Greece, he always found new strength and inspiration.
