Ernst Skrička (Vienna 1946-2020 Heinrichs bei Weitra/AT) studied graphic art and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Maximilian Melcher. At the same time, the completed the studies of history, art history and philosophy at the University of Vienna. The human figure was the central theme of his artistic work. She appears sometimes in battle, sometimes in the act of love. Either intricate, intense lines fill the paper entirely, or a few strokes merely hint at what is being depicted. Ernst Skrička suspended all anatomical rules and found his very own formal language for the artistic reproduction of the human body. For Skrička, working with large-format surfaces was essential. This resulted in life-size images that unite body, gesture and contour line into a harmonious whole.
