Daryoush Asgar (Tehran 1975) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In his large-format works, the artist captures the zeitgeist and portrays young men and women. His models pose confidently, unapproachably, and apathetically, reminding the viewer of images from advertisements and fashion magazines. Asgar's life-size portraits are precise, almost photo-realistically executed, yet worked with great painterly sensitivity. In 2002, Daryoush Asgar won the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward. Since 2007, he has worked exclusively in an artist duo with Elisabeth Gabriel.
