The versatile oeuvre of Michael Kos (Villach 1963) moves between sculpture, installations in public space and conceptual projects. He fixes folded maps on strips of cardboard and arranges them close together to form the works in the series Mappings. The original purpose of the map material is lost in favor of its formal properties such as color, brightness, or structure: the concise information gives way to a new sensuality of this "painting without brushes." As a sculptor, Kos works mainly with Krastal marble and has made a name for himself in particular with his "sewn stones". One work in this series is located in front of the STRABAG building in Graz, another in the STRABAG office building in Villach.
