Clemens Fürtler (Mödling 1966) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Today, the artist works in multimedia with the broad spectrum of artistic design possibilities and moves skillfully between sculpture, painting, photography and film. Inspired by the machine art of Jean Tinguely or Rebecca Horn, Fürtler designs his picture machines with the help of model trains and model highways, whereby the artist sometimes delegates the act of creation to the machine. Fürtler uses the rapid movements of the models, which are accompanied by changes in perspective and distortion, as a means of representation. Acceleration, speed or centrifugal forces find visual expression in Fürtler's works; skilful play with shadow and light are additional elements that underline the excerpt-like and spontaneous.
