Salzburg artist Bernd Koller (Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße 1971) studied painting with Arnulf Rainer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and completed several extended study visits, for example in Paris and Chicago. In 2001 Koller received a special prize from the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward, and in 2006 the prestigious Georg Eisler Prize for painting. Koller's sensitive, authentic drawings and aquarelles are the result of memorable experiences with nature and stem from the dialogue between nature and man. The works, often executed in wash and with very sparing brushwork, oscillate between abstraction and figuration. The reduction of painterly means makes the images sometimes romantic-transfigured, sometimes fragile and vulnerable.
