Peter Bischof (Vienna 1934-2021 Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting/AT) studied for several semesters at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Herbert Boeckl and Albert Paris Gütersloh. He had his first important exhibition at the Galerie nächst St. Stephan. Monsignor Otto Mauer wrote at the time: “Peter Bischof's art is ignited by the reality of the human figure. Far from naturalistic description, the cheap and banal copy, but also without exhaustive commentary, he meets the human figure in its pivotal points, where it is completely in motion.” In addition to religious and literary themes, the human body and expansive, dynamically moving images of people remain the focus of Bischof's work to this day.
