anselm glück (Linz 1950) studied sinology and ethnology and works as a painter, writer and graphic artist in Vienna since 1978. His books, paintings, objects as well as unique performances reflect absurdity, ambiguity and existential questions in a witty-ironic way. glück's works show the human universe in a unique visual language. Colorful heads, lines and fragments of figures appear playfully floating as if in a world theater on a monochrome pictorial background in black or white. glück never approaches a canvas with a specific intention. He works intuitively and spontaneously, gradually the actual picture crystallizes. The artist constructs his works in layers, first filling the canvas with colorful strokes and lines; only then does he search for interesting details. Found figures, houses, heads or even abstract fragments the artist works out in succession, covering the spaces in between with white or black paint. In the process, conventional norms seem to be suspended. Houses shrink and people grow, large becomes small and small becomes large. Imaginative figures and buildings populate the canvas. The titles of the works are meant to stimulate and take the viewer on a journey. The exceptional Austrian artist anselm glück is represented in the STRABAG Artcollection with numerous works on canvas and paper as well as two ensembles of 20 painted "lucky cubes" each.
