Jože Ciuha (Trbovlje 1924-2015 Ljubljana) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Ciuha was a true cosmopolitan: not least because of his numerous travels and stays, including to South America, India and his adopted hometown of Paris, he is today one of Slovenia's most internationally renowned artists. His motifs are inspired by these same journeys and experiences. The STRABAG Artcollection contains mainly watercolor works by Jože Ciuha. On white paper, delicately applied color and written notes enter into a union; the quotations often refer to specific literary works or authors. In many cases the artist referred in these works to important poets such as Georg Trakl, Charles Baudelaire or Alain Bosquet. The combination of pictorial and textual elements is characteristic of Ciuha's work and once again illustrates the complexity of his works and his intellectual artistic approach.
