Stefan Weiß (Stanisič/YU 1913-1998 Steinfeld/Drau) completed an apprenticeship as a church and decorative painter in Belgrade. In the 1950s he settled with his family in Steinfeld in Carinthia. The impressive mountain landscape and the view of the villages of his new adopted home - nestled in the lush green and fertile Drau Valley - inspired his painting. Similar to the artists of the Nötsch circle, he devoted himself to his immediate surroundings and gave them a very individual formal language through the choice of colors and composition. His œuvre comprises about 650 works, including oil drawings, pastel and watercolor paintings. In Steinfeld, Weiß created an elaborately designed, large-scale mosaic on outside walls of the inn, entitled Stagecoach.
