Tina Dobrajc (1984 Kranj/SI) studied at the Academy of Arts and Design in Ljubljana. Her motifs are inspired by the dense forests of Škofja Loka, the Sora plain and the idyllic Alpine foreland. These landscapes have shaped Dobrajc since the beginning of her artistic career and have strong personal connotations for her. Her works continue to reflect the tensions between politics, her personal history, violence and a horror that has transformed from the climate crisis as an initial concern to a tangible reality. Her backdrops often have a post-apocalyptic feel, with her deliberate use of glowing magenta and fluorescent hues that spread across trees and seem to reflect a nearby fire. With her work, Dobrajc wants to deliberately disrupt the idea that nature is a place of solace and contemplation. For the artist, nature is a wounded animal, dangerous and rabid, hurt and begging, attacking and fleeing, full of secrets and regrets. Dobrajc considers herself an animal rights activist and climate justice advocate and is an active observer of change. With her work, she directly addresses issues that concern her and inspire questions: "How can we feel good and safe without taking a close look at ourselves and our surroundings?"
The artist received a STRABAG Artaward International 2024 recognition prize.
