Nana Mandl (1991 Graz/AT) studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and at the Berlin Weißensee School of Art. The artist collects any material that appeals to her intuitively, be it digitally on the computer, on her cell phone or in analog form from magazines, but also old fabrics or small kitsch objects. It is certain colors and shapes that appeal to Mandl aesthetically. Thematically, her range is much broader: Worldly events are mixed with very personal content that occupies the artist in her everyday life, but also with pop culture, nostalgic motifs, often from her childhood in the 1990s. Nana Mandl is fascinated by the overlapping and simultaneity of things and the resulting flood of images and excessive demands. Her artistic work is an attempt to bring all of this into a physical form. This is how her collage-like works are created, in textiles or other media.
Nana Mandl is the main prize winner of the STRABAG Artaward International 2024.
