Desislava Unger (Sofia 1980) studied painting at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia and printmaking at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Her artistic work includes drawing and graphics as well as wood and silkscreen printing. Working mostly in series, Unger spins stories in her works that take place in fictional landscapes and interiors, exploring feelings and experiences and addressing the presence or absence of people. From assembled fragments, the artist creates balanced overall compositions that are poetic, harmonious and unsettling at the same time. Contrasts and ambiguity of pictorial elements, colors, structures and contents trigger the most diverse associations and emotions. Desislava Unger lives and works in Vienna.
