Minh Dung Vu (Vietnam 1995) studied at the University of Fine Art in Hanoi, at the Hochschule der bildenden Künste in Essen and at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. He finds inspiration in memories of his childhood in Vietnam: “My childhood is strongly connected with my grandmother and my birth country Vietnam. Sewing and tailoring are still an important part of our culture today. My grandmother not only raised me, but also taught me the love of sewing. From her, I was taught how to work with fabric and different sewing techniques.” Quite intuitively, Vu processes a wide variety of fabrics to create an overall composition. In doing so, he is interested in the mutability of fabrics, be it resilience, choice of color, the structure or density of the fabric or its absorbency, but also unforeseen properties that he detects in the course of his working process. Two other important components are light and shadow, as these create a kind of symbiosis between Vu's works and the environment in which they are presented. Minh Dung Vu is a recognition award winner of the STRABAG Artaward International 2020.
