Martin Steininger (Hallein 1987), a native of Salzburg, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Gunter Damisch. His works feature scenes of everyday life, places in the suburbs, banal incidents depicting the life and daily routine of the middle class. Through Steininger's drawings, these are brought into focus. Mysterious and beautiful, at times even irritating, are the effect of the chosen motifs, which are often even fragments from Steininger's own memories and experiences. Steininger used paper in a wide variety of formats as a support material, which he worked on with pencil, colored pencil, ballpoint pen, watercolor, and ink. In more recent works, the artist has devoted himself to painting on canvas, which is characterized by a muted, somber, dark, almost eerie coloring and deals with the broad spectrum of human fears and emotions. Martin Steininger received a recognition award in 2015 as part of the STRABAG Artaward International.
