Käthe Schönle (Riedlingen/DE 1976) studied fine arts and visual communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel with degrees in painting and illustration. She lives and works in Vienna. "Sketchbooks have accompanied Käthe Schönle since the beginning of her artistic career. Even in her early years, the constant note-taking was a first preoccupation with those existential questions of life that drive the artist's multifaceted work to this day. In the constant drawing of the sketchbook, two things were founded, which then solidified in the course of Käthe Schönle's career. Namely, first, the attempt to encounter philosophical questions in artistic expression, and second, a fascination for the material on which this very encounter takes place. Thus she moves from paper to canvas and again and again in the interplay of the two. In addition, there are always new materials, a movement into space, into the installative and now and then a step into the applied. For Käthe Schönle, art means transforming material and exploring the relationships of tension in terms of content, aesthetics and physics. The interest in the hybrid, the ambiguous and the multilayered pervades her entire oeuvre. Abstraction and figuration complement each other where the pictorial passages can be read in organic formations and conjectures of a shape or a landscape emerge, only to evaporate again immediately in the overall experience. Käthe Schönle offers simultaneous spaces of perception. The body is omnipresent in Schönle's work, not only as form, but also as conceptual content that crosses the boundaries of inside and outside."
