Barbara Höller (Vienna 1959) studied mathematics at the University of Vienna and at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Herbert Tasquil and Josef Moosmann. In 1999 she was awarded the 1st prize of the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward. The STRABAG Artcollection features works from various series by the artist. "My works are understood as a systematic examination of the primary working materials of painting - the picture carrier and the applied paint. The investigation of the interactions and relationships of these two inseparable elements, is conducted on the field of abstraction. [...] As an analytical and conceptual work, as an investigation of the possibilities and conditions of non-representational painting, the works revolve around the square, around monochrome or around simple or serial surface divisions."
