Georg Eisler (Vienna 1928-1998 Vienna) came from a family of artists; his father was a composer, his mother a singer. Eisler spent his early childhood in Moscow and Prague, among other places, and in 1939 the family emigrated to Great Britain. There Georg Eisler studied at the Stockport School of Art and at the Manchester Academy, where he also met Oskar Kokoschka, who gave him drawing and painting lessons. After the end of the war, Eisler returned to Vienna, but remained a cosmopolitan throughout his life: numerous study trips, lecture visits and guest professorships, for example in Rome, the USA and Hamburg, defined his life. In 1968 Eisler was appointed president of the Vienna Secession. Artistically, he devoted himself primarily to people - in addition to cityscapes and natural landscapes: Nudes, portraits and depictions of demonstrations, coffee house scenes or crowds dominate his oeuvre. Eisler often depicted famous personalities, artists and intellectuals in an unpretentious manner.
