Slovak painter Peter Cvik (1985), who gained international experience in Paris, Leipzig, Jerusalem and Ostrava, compresses and mixes his explorations of void landscapes, his typical „urbex“ infiltration in the city code. On his acrylic canvases he creates a system of architectural and industrial fragments, generating new landscape structures. In his imaginary cityscapes he unites but also includes deconstruction, disorientation through his constructed memories. On the one hand, his works resemble an analytical destruction of displays; on the other, Cvik creates a very unique formal language through expressive vertical and diagonal lines. Peter Cvik combines psychological visual memory, experience and perception of landscapes with the illusion of frozen time and space-time motion.
A new moment in Cvik's current works is the integration of human figures (from the series Hopless Romantic, 2023), who, however, are not heroes of the story, but only "inhabitants" or observers of the images. In addition, Peter Cvik recycled old silk-screen prints made during his residency in Ostrava. True to the motto: new artifacts, not waste, he created the collage series Full Circle (2023) with an intimate city atmosphere, which specifies his thinking about pictorial contexts and meanings.
