Strabag Kunstforum Artcollection Oran Ahmet 01

Ahmet Oran (Canakkale/Turkey 1957) has for many years occupied an unique position in Austrian painting. Oran studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul and at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The elementary and sensitive handling of color characterizes his finely nuanced, abstract painting. Oran's works always appear timeless. He applies the paint to the canvas layer by layer, only to reveal it again in fragments. This creates new patterns, structures, and connections. Before he begins to paint, the artist makes numerous sketches and color samples. He uses various spatulas and pieces of wood of different sizes, which replace the brush as a painting tool. The pressure that the artist exerts on the spatula or wood creates fine lines or areas of varying width in the layers of paint. Each layer must dry for a certain time, but must not become too dry, otherwise the partial removal of the respective layer of paint is no longer possible. The artist must therefore make sure to continue working on the paintings at certain intervals. Thus, he sometimes gets up at night to continue painting on time or uses the drying processes to work on several works at the same time.
